Holly Greaver

I am Holly Greaver, your new Lay Servant-Assigned/Minister at the Weirton United Methodist Charge. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce and tell you a little bit about myself, my faith journey and my mission in serving the Weirton Charge.

About Me:

I am married to Peter, and we reside in Follansbee with our three cats, Meezy, Leo and Lil’ Bit. We have a beautiful daughter Rianna, her husband Grant and my pride and joy grandson, Archer, who is just turning one on June 30th. The kids live about two hours away in Independence WV, so I try to get down to visit them once every couple of months.

I have been working full time at Industrial Scientific for the last 18 years. I work in Supply Chain where I fill the role as a Buyer/Planner for most of the gas detection products we make. I earned two associates in business administration and accounting from WV Northern Community College, and I am currently taking courses online at the University of the Cumberlands. I will earn my bachelors in Youth and Family Ministry, with an emphasis in Christian Ministries and Missions and Ministry in February 2027. This fall or sooner I will begin my lay servant to lay leader journey (waiting to register for classes) and in March of next year, I should begin courses for the United Methodist Church that will ultimately lead me to be a pastor.

My Faith Journey:

I have been a member of First UMC since I was about 8 years old. My first time there was at VBS, and I was hooked. As people sometimes do, I took a step back from church as a teenager but still made my annual holiday appearances. During my time away I continually felt God speaking to me every time I drove by the church. He said that I needed to start going again. After some life challenges, and God appearing to me in multiple ways, I started back in 2015 with a mission to bring children back to church. This mission has led me further into serving First UMC and the charge in different ways. Most recently I was the Sunday School teacher and VBS director, sat as Chairperson of our Administrative Council, and a member of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee. I help run the clothes closet, and distribute food out of our pantry. I also lead the church with most of the fundraising events. Most dear to my heart is our Operation Teen Christmas where we raise funds to assist low-income families with Christmas presents for their teenagers.

My Mission:

Last October I decided that I wanted to become a pastor; this is ultimately what God has been calling me to do all this time. I have ministered to the children and their families, but God is calling me for more. My personal mission, with your help, is to lead with Christ-like integrity, fostering a culture of prayer, unity, and transformational growth for our charge, and to bridge the gap between the church and the community, bringing Christ’s light and healing to a broken world. I want to actively serve and love my neighbors, remove obstacles to faith, and create a welcoming home for all, and to passionately preach the Gospel, turning seekers into disciples, and disciples into mature, fruitful leaders. I will shepherd with grace, nurturing authentic relationships with all of you, so every individual feels seen, valued, and equipped to follow Jesus. I hope to inspire and mobilize the congregations by unlocking every member’s spiritual gift to further build the Kingdom of God.

Our Mission:

As United Methodists our mission is to “Go and make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” We are called to love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously. You can start by inviting a friend, colleague, or family member to church. It takes asking someone up to seven times before they finally decide to come. Today is a good day to start that mission and help grow God’s Kingdom.

Closing Thoughts:

I’ll leave you with these final thoughts as I am so excited and inspired to be leading the Weirton UM Charge, “Be shepherds of God’s flock that under your care, watching over them, not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” (1 Peter 5: 2-3)
