PLEASANT VALLEY UMC Started in 1875, Pleasant Valley UMC (PV)is the tiny white church in the woods. Located in the Kings Creek area with a warm and loving congregation. When you attend PV it is like jointing a “family” everyone is encircled in the love, care, and support that the congregation gives. The church does not “see” the diLerences in people. Accessibility is not a problem at PV, a large side ramp with large white doors is waiting for any visitor who has or does not have mobility problems. Services are held Sundays at 10:15 a.m., except for joint services at Christ UMC at 10 a.m. the first Sunday of the month and at Pleasant Valley UMC at 10 a.m. on the second Sunday of the month. Pleasant Valley UMC has a strong connection with the surrounding community giving generous donations to schools, nursing homes, and local food pantries. PV has had a relationship with School of Bright Promise and Schafer Plaza. A residence for adults with developmental disabilities. In the past year they have made it possible for the three residential buildings to have a Halloween party, a Christmas gift exchange, and an outing to an Elvis show, zoo, andarcade. Their donations do not stop there, PV donates considerable amounts of food, clothing, and support to the Friendship Room in Steubenville, OH, Community Breadbasket in Weirton, Salvation Army, and Samaritan’s purse. The church has a very hospitable congregation. They participate in many charges’ wide activities. The originators of the charge prayer group, this group has continued through economic and social high and lows, yet the PV presence is there. This also can be seen in the charges many Bible studies. Members of PV are always willing and eager to partner with other congregations, fundraisers, community service and charge community relations. The most unique feature of PV is the labyrinth. This prayer/meditation structure has brought many diLerent events to PV, but the Pet Ministry is one open to the community of Weirton as a whole. Eventually this led to the Pet blessings at local community tables in downtown Weirton.
