Pastor’s Corner
Welcome to The Call! As you all know, Christ calls us to reach out to bring others into the fold. And as such, the Weirton United Methodist Charge, being three parishes working towards this goal, has decided the best way to keep all three churches, and the community at large, informed on everyone’s events is to publish a monthly newsletter.
Jesus calls us to love God and to love our neighbors. Therefore, The Call will be focusing on our missions in the community. Who are we trying to reach? How are we helping others to show the love, grace and mercy that God has given so abundantly to us? So, if you have an event, a mission, or a goal that takes you out into the community where you can share the Good News of Jesus Christ, let us know so that it can be spotlighted in The Call.
In Christian Love,
Pastor Kyle
Community Thanksgiving Dinner Volunteers
As Christians we are called to feed the hungry. Here is an opportunity to put this into action. Volunteers are needed to help on November 26th at 9:45 a.m. with meal preparation at the Senior Center. Then on Thanksgiving Day, you can help serve the meal to our community members starting at 9 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church or act as a delivery driver for shut-ins. For more information call Pastor Kyle at 304-308-1260.
Memorization verse
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him; and bless his name.”
-Psalm 100: 4
Christmas Parade Volunteers Needed
Let’s build a float! This year the Weirton UM Charge will be entering a float in the annual Christmas parade. The theme of the parade is Christmas songs and our float will be a representation of Hark! The Harold Angels Sing. We have a trailer and driver lined up, but we will need volunteers to help build the float or volunteers to ride/march with the float during the parade and toss out candy. The parade will take place on Saturday, November 29th at 6 p.m. with lineup at 4 p.m.
If you would like to volunteer to build the float, or to be a part of the parade, contact Carolyn Clements at 304-670-7535
Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoe Boxes
Once again, we will be contributing to the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoe Box Ministry. The boxes can be picked up in the church narthex and will be due by November 14th. Or you can make a monetary donation and get more information at their website: https://samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/pack-a-shoe-box
Operation Teen Christmas
First UMC is excited about a new mission project. During the holidays, programs are focused on giving presents to children, often forgetting about teenagers.
This year families with teens can pre-register with First UMC and make their wish list on Amazon. Then with proceeds from fundraisers, First UMC will buy gifts from these lists. For more information on either pre-registering or to help with fundraising call Holly at 304-374-0945.
Advent Bible Study
Once again, the Weirton UM Charge will be joining the New Cumberland Charge, with the addition of Nessly Chapel UMC, to host the Advent Bible Study. Travel along On the Way to Bethlehem by Rob Fuquay (available from Amazon or Cokesbury). The first session will be on November 19th at Point Pleasant UMC (52 Co Hwy 9/1, New Cumberland, WV 26047) at 6 p.m. Explore the journey of Mary and Joseph leading to the ultimate Christmas gift – the birth of Jesus.
Christmas on Main Street
The Weirton UM Charge will host a table at the annual Christmas on Main Street celebration. This will take place on Saturday, November 22nd from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help man the table and help with the crafts for kids to enjoy. You can volunteer for an hour or for the entire time. Any help would be appreciated. To volunteer for the event, contact Pastor Kyle at 304-308-1260.
Holiday Food Baskets
As grocery prices keep increasing the number of families in need of assistance also increase. During the holiday season the Weirton Charge will once again offer food baskets for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please call the church office at 304-748-6680. All requests for a Thanksgiving basket are due no later than November 16th.
Youth/Children Movie Day
First UMC will host its monthly movie day for youth and children on November 23rd from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. The feature film is the classic Back to the Future. Lunch will be served and a grab-n-go bag will be given out so the participants can take home some snacks. Drop off is at the back door under the carport. Or parents are welcome to stay and enjoy the festivities as well.
WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR?
